Jono Stevens

A well known face in Meribel having lived there year round for several years, Jono is known for creating a relaxed atmosphere in his teaching sessions that will put the most nervous first-timer at ease, but with the experience and knowledge to ensure that even a technical minded freestyle rider will come away having learnt something new.

Where are you from?

Derby, along with Cab9 coach Chris, we grew up skateboarding together then after turning 18 the call of the French alps was too much and have been there almost ever since!

How long have you been riding for?

I’ve been riding now for 21 years and still have the same passion and enthusiasm, if not more, than the first time I tried. I’ve been involved in all aspects of snowboarding from helping people find the right setup in shops to shaping summer Parks in Norway. Along the way I spent 10 winters in France including seasons in Meribel, Morzine and Les Arcs. I spent a season teaching in Glenshee, Scotland, and even 6 months in the Snowdome! I have also taught for shorter periods in Italy and Switzerland.

What’s your favourite trick and why does it feel good?

B/S 180 – Floaty and smooth, big or small still feels good.

How would you describe your riding style?

Smooth and relaxed. I believe when you can do a trick or ride a line smoothly and relaxed that`s when you have complete control. It means there is always something more to learn, thats what keeps pushing me and why i still enjoy it so much.

Your perfect day on the slopes?

3 of my best friends, blue sky, deep powder, our favourite lines all day long until our legs hurt, then a few cold beers in the sun.

What do enjoy about coaching snowboarding?

Meeting people, riding everyday, but mostly the satisfaction you see when someone learns something new.

Why Meribel?

It has everything you need, some of the best freeride terrain going, a huge 600km of pistes and now one of the best parks in europe thanks to the DC Area 43. It`s also pretty good for a few drinks after riding!
